What is the difference between the savage 110 and 116

He got it to replace the Remington he just sold which ironically is the other rifle I've been looking at. Said they were both tack-drivers. I went to their website and couldn't even see them marketing them differently.

So if you were shopping for a savage rifle, which model would you be looking at, and why? For what purpose? I have two of their target models and they are great.

Not the prettiest guns, but they shoot well and the triggers in the target versions are superb. Some of the Savage stocks on the normal models leave a bit to be desired, but depending what you want to do with it, they may be fine.

If just plinking, any of them will do. For Hunting, any of them will do. Accuracy will be good with all, but long range shooting requires one with a better stock outside of the target versions or you have to replace the factory one with something better.

Thanks for the info! For the most part just target shooting. What differences exist from the sportster to weather warrior 16's, just the stainless? The guy I was talking to the range had the model 16 SS and liked the weight of it vs. ALL long actions will be the same regardless of when they were made. That is all the stocks interchange between long action guns. But, there always is a but, there is a difference in barrel shanks for those of you that plan on swapping barrels.

For short actions there are differences as well. This matters if you plan on swapping stocks. ALL short actions that have a flat rear receiver, like a R, will be 4. Round back actions will be 4. Basically anything after will be 4. The Stevens rifle is identical except for the stock and blind box. Has all of the accuracy you could ever want for a woods rifle. Another thing that makes savages so nice is that there are nearly as many aftermarket parts for them as there are for the remington Excellent rifles over all as long as your not expecting a show quality safe queen.

I like all the ones I own and have ever owned. I have a Model in 7mm Remington Magnum and just picked up a Model in. The 7mm is a tack driver and has accounted for many deer over the years. I haven't tried out the yet, but I expect that it is a tack driver also. Too bad for the coyote population where I hunt!! They won't be fond of what happens next!! I tried out the M! I sighted it in with an old Tasco scope I've had laying around for years.

I plan on replacing it with a nice Leupold or Nikon in the near future. The two coyotes I shot did not share my high opinion of the rifle. The synthetic stock and the matte black finish were a bit boring, so I adjusted the stock a bit.

I camo'd that bad boy out! Nice little DIY home project!! See below:. Last edited: Apr 27, You must log in or register to reply here. Results 1 to 4 of 4. Thread: vs what are the differences? Then you get into the lettering system. These are just generalizations. They are constantly changing and adding. I wouldn't say any of the number designators are an indication of "higher end" models. I'm not sure from a functional perspective there's a nickel's worth of difference between them. It's just a matter of what features you want.

Appreciate the opinions and info. Functionally maybe not a ton of diff Anything special going on there? The LRH "might" fit the bill Joined Feb 27, Messages Hornseeker said:.

The base axis has no accutrigger, no accustock, etc. I have a axis my buddy has an 06 in the fcss , both guns shoot better than MOA, the axis is lighter. The feels a lot less "cheap. Click to expand Is that your Axis? Aftermarket stock? However it is heavy. Compared to the standard 'Tupperware' there's iirc around 9oz difference.

The Axis has a horrible, horrible stock but my God is it accurate! The trigger is identical to the old non-accutrigger models. The magazine is identical. I personally prefer the action. It's only a 2-position safety. New stock or same just painted? New bolt handle. New barrel.
