Off the top of my head, didn't C99 and all it's variants originate from Jack Herer bag seed? Didn't Headband come from bag seed also? I'm thinking, if that's true then there's a few legends right there which must have come from hermie seed, unless of course people were growing out males and females together back in the day, but I doubt that.
Opinions welcome, like I said it isn't really an issue for me but a bit more knowledge never hurt anyone. I think you'll hear mostly negatives about Hermie seeds. Blah blah blah about how they are prone to herm etc IMO, that is why some bagseed grown proper could be phenomenal and relatively stable. Probably depends on why it hermed as well. If it was spontaneous with ideal conditions I wouldn't waste my time. If it was due to too much N, or light leaks, bad temp swings in that pivotal transition say 2,3,4 wks post flip when all those hormones are shifting gears, I'd say grown proper, she would have probably been OK.
I have several accidental hermie seeds that I have grown and will continue to pop. I label them mystery and pop one per run. Cull at any sign of weakness at any stage of growth, is seedling, veg etc I don't feel guilty about it them because they were basically free.
So my threshold to cull is hair trigger and I've taken two to flower. They didn't herm on me in flower. No keepers but still good smoke. They were up against legit gears here from the shop though so its getting harder to find keepers that beat my Selene indica pheno, free kush, and cheesberry99 keeper.
The latter is on the bubble though lol. So much legit gear from the shop. Each run tying more. Free kush is a tempremental bitch and hermied. She sexed Selene, herself, and cheeseberry The Selene and ch99 crosses have some potential I think.
The Selene x fk are almost retarded strong in veg. Could be some mutant nightmare down the road tho lol. But I've never see some parts of the plant look so big and knarly. Not sure what they are called but the little spike looking for things that develop before and next to preflowers. These look silly huge on the three Selene x fk beans I popped and two are confirmed female, and likely all are fem anyway, but who knows for sure until they do sex.
And I run them to rule out Hermie. Could very well be junk, but nevertheless still excited to try. Rambling so plz forgive. Anyway, again if it hermied from bad stress IMO I'd try them but wouldn't bank on them for a grow. That could stress them but not likely. I find nutrient stress is the most common cause of stress reversal.
Heat stress too. Thats a biggie. You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads. Have Hermies doomed my grow? Bib4tuna Sep 27, General Indoor Growing. Replies 5 Views Jun 4, freezeland2. There are lots of tips and tricks for judging how much water your marijuana plants need. Pick one which works for you and use it. Drain the seeds before placing them in the bag.
Dampen a paper towel and fold it into the bag. Place the seeds along one side of the bag , pressing them against the paper towel. Seal the bag tightly, and hang in a window using tape. In general, two to three seeds should be planted per hole. If what you've got is a handful of seeds , it's pretty much impossible to tell which ones are male or female.
The only way true way to tell the plant's gender is to plant some seeds , then wait. After a period of several weeks, it will begin to pre-flower, or form a small bud in the crux of a branch. If the process has been carried out properly, in just a few days you will see the seeds begin to grow inside the calyx of the female flowers. Once the plants have been pollinated, most of the seeds will take weeks to fully mature always depending on the strain.
Can you grow Hermie seeds? Category: hobbies and interests beekeeping. Nowadays the feminisation techniques used to produce feminised seeds is pretty sophisticated and based on a lot of experience. If you have been avoiding feminised seed due to hermie concerns then it may be time for a re-think. Here on the Dutch circuit, feminised seed has been the only way to go for many years despite the occasional poor reputation of the early first generation feminised seeds. Even today there are some strains that may show hermie tendencies if grown in below-standard conditions.
Blueberry is one such strain, we have never promoted this as an easy strain to grow, it suits the experienced grower who can really get optimised conditions. Blueberry is a strain which is thought to have a have had ancestory which included a plant with slight hermie tendencies. These tendencies can reappear today when something small stresses the plant.
So Blueberry is perhaps not the best choice for rookie growers, I know people who only ever grow this variety but do so with the benefit of many years experience and have never seen hermie issues.
At the same time I am aware of first-time growers who have bought a pack of Blueberry seeds and had hermie issues, they may have been better off with a more bullet-proof strain such as Skunk 11 for a first grow.
